Embroidery 3D Workshop at 61 Local - join me Monday, 9/15, 10:30-1:30

I am teaching a special brunch time 3D embroidery class on Monday, September 15 from 10:30am - 1:30pm. Join us in the 61 Local mezzanine, 61 Bergen Street, Brooklyn. Among in-class exercises, we will make mini doll houses, like the ones below.

GrindrPoets

Thanks to some hilarious NYU students for sharing their thoughts and poetry this past Monday evening at 61 Local. Keep This Bag Away from Children, a literary magazine, hosted a fun reading. I especially loved Maggie Lee's Twitter poems (@Maggie44). 

I walked away with inspiration for the attached embroidery.

Stitch with me this September (and October and November)

Let's embroider together this fall. Upcoming workshops include:

FOR BEGINNERS ~
1. Embroidery 101 @ 61 Local
61 Bergen Street, Brooklyn (near Smith Street and the F/G trains to Bergen Street)

Wednesday, 9/14, 7-8:30pm with instructor (me) available until 9pm
This is a total intro class where you will learn basic stitches. Within the first half hour, you will be able to stitch your name.

You can sign up for one session; each session is 3 hours
Info covered: basic stitches + techniques for transferring images onto fabric and drawing and writing with thread.

Employees must wash hands before returning to work

Last spring (April 2010), I began a commission, embroidering neighborhood scenes on pieces of linen 11" X 11". These panels sit in front of light boxes, and are one of the more decorative aspects of the decor at 61 Local, a new public house or "pub" at 61 Bergen Street in Cobble Hill. The bar features food and craft beers that are locally produced. The decor is spare and minimal, and the atmosphere is friendly and low key.
