Woven Poetry Bridge

I'm really looking forward to some upcoming shows, including the culmination of my Weaving Hand Artist Residency on Thursday, December 19th. The evening will feature woven and embroidered handwork, artwork from my Brooklyn Arts Council-supported @EmbroideryPoems project, and readings by some of my favorite poets, Montana Ray, Octavio Gonzalez, and Tico Cortez. My first woven comes off the loom.

I've been having a blast at Weaving Hand lately, experimenting with unconventional yarns in the form of cut fabric. Here I am wearing my first woven piece, which I will later cut into individual, smaller pieces.

Repurposed and hand cut fabric is also coming into play in my workshops with the Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation at MS226 in Queens. I'm teaching pre-teen boys to knit - it's fun! We're also building sculptures from discarded clothing via folding, piling and manipulating. See below...

Dyeing, repurposing and weaving with Weaving Hand Studio

Dyeing and drying the warp by hand with an iron. I actually hand painted the warp with watercolor wax pastels...

I also spent some time weaving, using cut-up, old t-shirts as "yarn" for the weft.
